Appleton Common Council District 6 Update for November 26, 2025

Greetings District 6 Neighbors,

In the words of that well known meteorologist Winnie the Pooh, “It looks like a rather blustery day today.” I hope a lot of you are able to stay inside and warm. I just got a notice that power is out at City Hall and parts of downtown, so take that into account if you have errands this morning. (our power flickered a while ago but we’re still good so far 😊)
It’s been a slow committee week, with only the Parks and Recreation Committee meeting to discuss a relatively short agenda. They approved the new fee schedule for the Reid Golf Course for 2026. Greens fees are generally increasing by just a bit, in line with other public courses in the area:
Annual passes will remain at the same price except for the business pass, which is for a foursome and includes two golf cart rentals.
The committee also reviewed the Reid Golf Course Revenue and Expense Report for October. Year to date revenue for the golf course is up by about $40,000 over 2024.
The other action item on the agenda, approval of the images selected for the Houdini Welcome Tower, was referred back to the Appleton Public Arts Committee for some clarification of the agreements with the artists. This is not a time sensitive item, as the images would not be changed until spring.
The final information item for the meeting was a review of the Comprehensive Outdoor Recreation Plan (CORP) for the City of Appleton. A Comprehensive Outdoor Recreation Plan is a formal document designed to assist communities in the development of park and open space amenities that will satisfy the needs of their citizens. This plan is updated every five years.  The Parks and Recreation Committee will vote on the plan at their December 8 meeting, and the full council will vote on its adoption at the December 17 meeting. The plan is linked here for your review: Appleton CORP
The abbreviated committee week will lead to a very short Common Council meeting next week. The agenda only has reappointments to the Advisory Panel on Sustainability, the Parade Committee (congratulations to Corey Otis and his team for another successful Christmas Parade!) and the Bicycle and Pedestrian Advisory Committee in addition to the single action item from the Parks and Recreation Committee.
I’ll close this short update with my wish for a very happy Thanksgiving – smooth and safe travels for who are spending the holiday with out of town family and friends, and perfect turkey, smooth gravy and magazine-cover-worthy pies for the chefs.

Denise
