Appleton Common Council District 6 Update for February 18, 2026
Greetings, District 6 Neighbors,
Looking out at the bright sunshine, I’m almost glad to see the forecast calling for a return to freezing temperatures for the weekend so that the Avenue of Ice carvings can last for the full weekend. Appleton Downtown, Inc. has a list of sculpture locations and a link to Downtown Frosty Finds, in partnership with the Fox Cities Convention & Visitors Bureau. Downtown Frosty Finds has discounts at a number of downtown businesses. Check them both out here: Avenue of Ice Carvings - Appleton Downtown Inc.
This is full council week; the only other meetings on the calendar were the CDBG (Community Development Block Grant) Advisory Board and the Library Board Personnel Committee on Tuesday. The CDBG Board was to vote on the recommended external partner allocations of the estimated $95,379 remaining of the 2026-2027 block grant funding (after core projects and city department projects previously approved by the Community Development Committee and Common Council). The recommendations were:
The Library Board Personnel Committee was to establish the Library Director’s 2026 performance goals.
Tonight’s Common Council meeting will begin with proclamations designation Black History Month and Career and Technical Education Month.
Nothing on the council agenda seems like it will generate a great deal of discussion – most of the agenda items passed unanimously in committees of jurisdiction. Most of the items were from the Finance Committee – contracts being awarded for projects approved in the 2026 budget. For most projects we are getting multiple bids, with at least one bid being below the budgeted figure.
If the warm weather and sunshine have you thinking of spring and summer activities, you can download the 2026 Spring/Summer Activity Guide and start planning. Registration for Appleton residents starts on March 4.
And…yet another reminder to fill out the Survey — Appleton Sustainability Master Plan and apply to be on the planning team if you want to be part of developing the Sustainability and Resilience Master Plan for Appleton.
Have a great week!
Denise
